The ability to navigate forward/back to additional pages asking for user input preserving the data already entered lets site visitors have total control of what has already been typed in or selected. You can set a field error message to notify the user what data has yet to be entered. This option will return the page to the user with a list of error messages, instead of a separate page asking them to use the browsers back button to enter the required information.
